What Christmas 2019 Taught Me

January 1, 2020

As we say good-bye to 2019, I reflect on the recent Christmas season in a new home and new community with new traditions. No, this isn’t the first Christmas we’ve been here, but maybe the first I was able to think and reflect.

  1. I miss the traditions I left in Dallas – mainly it’s the family gatherings I miss.
  2. Change is hard – even when you choose the change.
  3. Decorating a Christmas tree is important – I almost got too lazy.
  4. It’s ok if traditions change.
  5. Teen and tween granddaughters are hard to buy for.
  6. Candlelight Christmas Eve service at church jump-starts my heart.
  7. Toddlers are so much fun at Christmas – and easier to buy for.
  8. Being away for 10 days during December makes preparing for Christmas difficult.
  9. Not baking ANYTHING at Christmas makes me sad.
  10. Spending time with loved ones is really all that matters – the gifts are a by-product.
  11. Jesus is the reason for the season.
  12. After-Christmas shopping with my girls makes me happy. It’s really the lunch that matters.
  13. Providing massage for a 90 year-old patient in a care facility on Christmas Eve warms my heart.
  14. 70 degree weather on Christmas day is nice – being outside is good.
  15. I didn’t heart O Holy Night this season. It’s my favorite. I miss Horace singing it – bless him.
  16. Scavenger hunt to find gifts is fun.

What did this Christmas season teach you?
