Visualize Your Highest Self đź‘€

February 16, 2021

Can you visualize your highest self as you provide care for others?

Are you able to visualize yourself in a different place? In a different mindset? A more holistic approach?

If you deliberately and intentionally think about your highest self, what would it look like?

My highest self would include:

        • Commanding (taking control of the situation)

        • Calmness (remaining calm while experiencing confusion and chaos)

        • Confidence (confident in my skill to provide gentle-touch massage)

Kathy, the owner of Diner Wear, recently contacted me and asked if she could feature me and my course on her blog. She learned about my course – A Guide for Caregivers: How to Provide Gentle-Touch Massage for Your Loved One – because it won the 2020 Friendly Caregiver Award at caregiver.com. I was honored and said “yes, of course”!

Many of you know, I’ve been providing massage for those with advanced illness and at the end-of-life for a long time.  I sincerely believe that I benefit as much as the receiver of the massage benefits. It’s been hard for me to describe this concept to others, but Kathy helped me put it into to words when she wrote her blog…

“Meditation is one of the most well-known forms of relaxation. Massage therapy is known to ease pain and anxiety. Progressive Massage Therapy is a blend of the two. It gives caregivers the benefits of meditation while you ease the pain and anxiety of the person you care for.”

I didn’t consider the reality of what I internalize and experience when giving a massage, but I completely agree that it does mix the benefits of meditation for the giver while easing the pain and anxiety of the one you are massaging.

As I teach others the basics of gentle-touch massage, I now have the words to better explain what I’ve internalized for years… a way of meditating while easing pain and anxiety for the person for which I provide care using gentle-touch massage.

It’s truly an honor to work with those hurting physically and emotionally. Knowing that my touch eases the pain, the stress and anxiety is rewarding.

Now I have a new way to answer the question I get all the time, “How do you work with those who are so sick or dying? I can now answer, “I get such joy from providing rest and relaxation for those who are hurting physically and emotionally. I find it to be very relaxing for me… meditation as I work.”

You too, can visualize YOUR highest self as you care for others.
