2016 Oncology Massage Summit

April 28, 2016

I just returned from Minneapolis where I attended the 2016 Oncology Massage Summit.  I am so excited and wanted to share a little of it with you.

Four days of being up early, staying up late, shuttle buses, a nice bed-but not mine, airports and restaurant food…  But, I saw friends I haven’t seen in years, learned a ton of new stuff and had the opportunity to enjoy a new city. Overall, excellent!

I was invited to come a day early to attend the Educator’s Forum. It was the highlight of the event. I went away with ideas to incorporate into our training for massage therapists; Final Touch Training; Adapting Massage for the End of Life.

Other classes I loved:

  • Creating Space; Addressing Scar Tissue and Shoulder Mechanics for the Breast Cancer Patient. I have already used this new technique with one of my regular breast cancer patients. I asked her what she noticed following the massage.  Her comment, “It feels more open”.  PERFECT response – that was my goal!
  • Application of Manual Lymphatic Drainage in the management of secondary lymphedema. This class was fab – lot of technical stuff and a demo. The demo was not quite long enough, but overall a great class.

Several other classes where I learned a ton of new stuff; I was reminded of old stuff and really enjoyed the conference. As I reflect, the most important part of the experience was the heartfelt joy I had in seeing old friends and the opportunity to reconnect.

There is nothing more important to me than my people; the people in my life who make my life, well, my life! Thank you for being a part of my journey. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love. Thank you for the opportunity to make a small difference in your healing process, your stress levels and your muscle soreness. I truly appreciate each one of you!

Warmly,

Susan
